Beating more than 2,000 participants from all over the world at the JVC Tokyo Video Festival 2008; Multimedia Design major of The One Academy students, El Wong (centre), Reuben Teo (right), Wong Ee-Va, Yiing Shii Ti, and Stefanie Chee won the Excellence Award received included a 100,000 Japanese Yen and Award plaque, for their short-video ‘Fence’. To make things even better, the students were invited to Japan for 3D-2N to attend the award giving ceremony, fully paid by JVC for two!
Meanwhile, during the launch of JVC Camcorder GZ-MS 100 recently at Sheraton Subang, two of the winners, El Wong and Reuben Teo representing the group to receive a set of latest JVC Camcorder GZ-MS 100 worth RM1,499 from Mr Hirokazu Tamura, MD of JVC Sales & Services (M) Sdn Bhd (left).
“It was awesome! JVC actually gave us an invitation for 2 to Japan, but all of us shared the travelling expenses and went in a group. It was a fantastic experience as the Japanese culture is well-known for their expertise in creativity,” added Reuben, who is currently a tutor at The One Academy.
According to the 22-year-old, ‘Fence’ was the group’s 2nd year multimedia major assignment at The One Academy. A story about social segmentation between races, Fence describes the story about 2 kids breaking the racial barrier between them & crossing over the fence of racial differences.
“We’ve all totally forgotten about the competition. It took JVC about one year to finalise the winners, so we thought we didn’t win when there was no news from them. So, the award was a real surprise!” said Reuben during an interview with El Wong after the prize presentation.
